Pros | Cons | Verdict |
Affordable and compact; Very utilitarian; lot of features as standard; Hybrid version is fuel efficient; lot of optional extras and packages available. | The low cost means cost cutting on the interiors; very less payload and towing capacity; engine is powerful but still does not feel powerful enough at highway speeds. | Ford has delivered what a lot of people were requesting for - a cheap compact pickup. In this day of huge bulky expensive pickups, the Maverick offers a pickup experience which is poles apart from other full and mid size pickups. |
What’s interesting
- Starting at just under $20,000, it's very affordable.
- It's slightly longer than a midsize sedan like the Camry or the Accord, but it still seats five people and has a 4.5-foot bed.
Prices and Trims
The base model 2.5 litre hybrid front wheel drive layout starts just under $20,000, while a fully optioned out top end Lariat with the 2.0 litre ecoboost and AWD with all packages will cost more than $30,000.

Availability
The Maverick is now available in all states, and its popularity is skyrocketing. Many dealers and the manufacturer are providing financial and cash back incentives for the pickup. The links can be found at the bottom of this article.
Performance and Handling
- Front independent suspension - comfortable and well-handling.
- It has a turning radius of 40 feet.
- Because of its four-wheel disc brakes, it has effective braking with minimal fade.
- At high speeds, it maintains its grip.
- Because the Maverick is a unibody truck, it handles like a car.
- With its low center of gravity, you can confidently chuck it around corners.
Despite having a torquey ecoboost engine, it still lacks some highway punch. It is nonetheless a pickup, and it handles much better than other pickups on the road.
Interior
Seating | Headroom, Front/Rear | Legroom, Front/Rear | Cargo Volume |
5 | 40.3 / 39.6 Inches | 42.8 / 35.9 (Hybrid) and 36.9 Inches (2.0 liter) | 4.5 foot bed |
Cabin Space
The cabin is spacious and bright. The materials might feel cheap, but Ford has cleverly designed it to look funky rather than boring. Instead of dark plastics, they used brighter materials. To give the ford a hint of environmental friendliness, recycled materials have been extensively used.
The optional sunroof brightens the cabin, but it takes up some headroom. The front seats have plenty of space, but taller passengers in the back may feel a little crammed.
There is an abundance of storage space. Bottle holders with a distinct design and doorbins are located on each door. There is also storage space beneath the rear seats.
Aside from the storage under the armrest, the center console itself has 5 different storage compartments for various applications. There is also extra storage behind and to the right of the center screen.
Infotainment and connectivity
Drivers have their choice between two infotainment systems: Sync or Sync 3. Sync comes standard on S, including a Wi-Fi hotspot, six speakers, and a 4.2-inch display. The other trims feature Sync 3 that gets displayed on an 8-inch screen and includes both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Besides the bigger screen, having access to smartphone connectivity makes all the difference for the average driver. SES also adds voice control and Titanium features a 10-speaker sound system.
Quick Quirks
Storage space is available behind and to the right of the center screen. In addition, there is additional storage in the right bed wall, with a hidden compartment beneath the storage bin.
Infotainment and connectivity
The entire lineup comes standard with an 8-inch LCD touchscreen. The user interface is simple, and the display is clear and crisp. It lacks navigation and other features because Ford chose to cut costs here and instead made Android Auto and Apple CarPlay standard.
A 4.2-inch driver display is standard in the XL and XLT, but XLT owners can upgrade to a larger 6.5-inch digital driver display, which is standard in the Lariat. All variants come standard with six speakers, but the Lariat has an optional 660W Bang and Olufsen system.
LIKES
- There are many standard features, such as a wifi hotspot, an 8-inch touchscreen, and six speakers.
- On the right bed wall, Ford has a barcode; scanning that code takes you to Ford's website, where they share ideas for bed customization and a variety of DIY custom jobs.
- In the front, there are two USB ports (type A and type B).
- Two 12V sockets, one in front and one in back Conventional socket behind the center console.
DISLIKES
- Optional B&O system has to be bought with the luxury package and Co-pilot package which adds a total cost of $4,300.
Technology and Features
The Maverick includes keyless entry, a wifi hotspot, LED lighting, and Ford's FLEX BED architecture as standard. The Maverick's strength, on the other hand, is in its customizability.
There are various optional extras available, including an in-cabin 400W inverter, Bed Extender, and Bed lights, as well as other packages such as the $650 Ford Co-Pilot 360, which includes a lot of driver assistance technology, the $745 4K package, which increases the standard tow rating to 4000 lbs, and the $800 FX4 offroad package.
The base model has a manual 6-way adjustable driver and 4-way adjustable passenger seat, but an 8-way powered driver and 6-way powered passenger seat is available as an option on the XLT and standard on the Lariat.
LIKES
- Lots of customizability - lowers base price while increasing options to choose from.
- Ford's Co-Pilot 360 package is loaded with driver assistance technology and is well worth considering.
DISLIKES
- Too many options might confuse some people.
- Many options are available in packages, which can unnecessarily add features and cost to the base price of the vehicle.
- Manual single-zone air conditioning
Quick Quirks
Instead of a traditional shifter, the Maverick has a rotary gear selector. The Maverick also has a slot in the back of the center console, just below the 12V socket, where you can build your own custom accessories or attach Ford's accessories.
Exterior
Maverick's exterior design emphasizes function over form. It is styled after a conventional truck in order to appear bold and practical. The boxy exteriors make it appear tough, while modern elements such as the LED lamps and chunky alloys make it appear modern.
The FX4 option includes a decal on each side of the bed. Ford also lets you choose the decal you want, as well as bed racks, plastic fender flares, a hood scoop kit, graphics, and the option to put the name badge on the tailgate. The bed top is surrounded by a plastic cover to protect the paint from damage when you throw things in the bed.
Apart from that, the tailgate has customisable tether which means you can keep the tailgate open at an angle to put items longer than 4.5 feet and it also makes sure that the goods don't slip out.
Warranty and Safety
- The vehicle is covered by a 3year/30,000-mile warranty.
- The powertrain is warrantied for 5 years/60,000 miles (battery included).
- The warranty on Safety Restraint Systems is 5 years/60,000 miles.
- It includes a 5-year/60,000-mile Roadside Assistance Program.
