2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Reviews and Insights

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500: It delivers all the goods of a Mustang but adds extra performance thrills.

PROS: A mighty engine; quick-shifting transmission; exceptional performance numbers; a fully immersive experience

CONS: The interior leaves a lot to be desired; the audio system is pretty disappointing; the premium Track Pack package is pricey; you will not save money at the pump

VERDICT: The Shelby GT500 mixes the approachability of a Mustang in the muscle car segment but adds extra power, a shiftier transmission, and an incredibly immersive experience. Don't expect this to be a bargain from sticker price to the fuel pump.

Does it have any competitors or rivals?

What’s interesting about the 2022 Mustang Shelby GT500?

·      Limited-production Heritage Edition introduces a Brittany Blue paint job with Wimbeldon

·      White or Absolute Black twin stripes.

·      Code Orange part of the 2022 color palette

GT500KR (stands for King of the Road) model offered and produces over 900 horsepower

How about the prices and trims?

The 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby comes with two trims, the GT500 and GT500KR, which stands for King of the Road. The GT500 starts at $78,350, and the higher-end GT500KR is $127,895. The GT500KR boasts over 900 horsepower. Both trims offer a Carbon Fiber Track Pack with 20-inch carbon-fiber wheels, aerodynamic add-ons, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, and several weight-reduction options to improve its sporting bonafide. The Track Pack will set you back an extra $18,500.

Which one do we recommend?

While the GT500KR adds extra horsepower, given that the base model GT500 is 760-horsepower, you are not getting much more horsepower, and the added sticker price is almost $50,000 more, it is not worth it. The GT500 is a powerful vehicle, and if you want to add extra aerodynamic performance and still save some money – because the gas mileage on this vehicle is not great, and you will be paying a lot at the pump – you can add the Carbon Fiber Track Pack.

What about its availability?

The Mustang Shelby GT500 is part of the sixth generation of Mustangs introduced in 2015. both trims have been available since the start of the 2022 calendar year.

What about its performance and handling?

·   The GT500 has a 5.2-liter V8 engine has a 760-horsepower engine and 625 pound-feet of torque.

·      This vehicle has a quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is an aerodynamic performance machine. It has a powerful engine, can go 0-60 in less than 3.5 seconds. It handles like a dream and delivers the raw muscle you expect from a Mustang. The Shelby's dual-clutch transmission keeps the ride smooth, and this vehicle's handling and cornering prowess are exquisite. We had a great time driving this car, and we think you will also.

How’s the interior?

Interior Details:

The interior of the 2022 Mustang is not great, and the Shelby GT500 is not much better. You get the standard aluminum dashboard trim that Shelby is known for, but the interior is a rehash of the other 2022 Mustang trims. The Recaro bucket seats are not the most comfortable. While dual-zone climate control, leather trim on the seats, and the option to add carbon fiber to the cabin as a trim are fantastic, overall, the interior is a weakness of the Shelby. Other than poor gas mileage (which is to be expected), the cabin is the lone sore spot for us with the 2022 Shelby GT500. It is not such an issue that we think it takes away from the driving experience, and the ride is relatively smooth within the cabin, which will make you forgive the bland surroundings.

Infotainment and connectivity synopsis:

Ford offers a Wi-Fi hotspot and Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto capability. The Ford Sync 3 software is supported via an eight-inch touchscreen that allows users to monitor their vehicle via a smartphone app. There is a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, but it fails to deliver the sound quality you expect from the Bang & Olufsen name. Why? You got us, maybe the sound is drowned out by the engine's roar in this speed demon, but for whatever reason, the sound comes across as diluted and hard to hear without turning the volume up louder than you may want.

LIKES: Optional Wi-Fi hotspot; Apple Car Play and Android Auto capability comes standard

DISLIKES: The Bang & Olufsen sound system lack some of the oomph in this model

How about the technology and features?

The technology and features in the 2022 Mustang Shelby GT500 are decent but nothing to write home about. The infotainment and connectivity options are pretty good for a muscle car, so maybe all things being relative are good, but in general, it's nothing to write home about. The 760-horsepower V8 engine is beautiful, as is the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. While the infotainment and connectivity options are limited, the powertrain is not.

LIKES: The powertrain options

DISLIKES: Infotainment and connectivity options leave a lot to be desired

Quick Quirks: Less of a quirk and more of a negative, or at least a thing to remember, this car is not a gas-sipper. The Shelby GT500 gets 12 miles to the gallon in the city and 18 on the highway, worse than its competition.

Some additional features:

·      Heritage Edition

·      Carbon Fiber Track Pack adds aerodynamic elements

How’s the exterior?

This vehicle is gorgeous. The 2022 Shelby GT500 is sleek and aerodynamic. Some of the highlights include dual exhaust with quad tips, a rear diffuser, LED sequential taillights, and the add-ons with the Track Pack 20-inch, such as carbon fiber wheels. You can add a spoiler and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires to accentuate the sporty nature of this vehicle. The exterior speaks to the racing heritage of the Shelby GT500 and the Mustang, and if you are not intrigued just by looking at this vehicle, well, maybe you do not like sports cars.

What warranty and safety does it offer?

Ford offers very few top-end safety features. The braking system is quite powerful, and the launch control driver-assistance system is one of the few driver-assistance features of this vehicle. An available blind-spot monitoring system and rear cross-traffic alert are excellent, but the Shelby is not blessed with advanced safety features. As far as warranty offers go, you get a limited warranty covering three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty covering five years or 60,000 miles. Ford does not offer complimentary scheduled maintenance, which is a bummer.

Are there any incentives and rebates on the EV?

Federal and state governments provide incentives to promote EV purchases. It would be best to consider these incentives before finalizing the purchase of any EV, hybrid, or any other Alternatively Fueled Vehicle (AFV).
