Ford Mustang Mach 1: Powerful yet sophisticated, this sporty speedster still delivers thrills and chills.
PROS:
CONS: The interior can leave something to be desired; the optional Recaro seats are not very comfortable; the performance package has a harsh ride feel
VERDICT: It is still an exceptional sports car, and it boasts a lot of personality and power. It may have some issues with its interior quality, but otherwise, Ford has another winner on its hands with the 2022 Mustang lineup.
Does it have any competitors or rivals?
2022 Chevrolet Camaro, 2022 Dodge Challenger SRT
What’s interesting about the 2022 Mustang Mach 1?
· The Ice, White, Stealth, and Coastal Limited appearance packages are newly available packages
· The California Special package is back
· The 2022 lineup boasts a V8 model and an EcoBoost four-cylinder engine model
How about the prices and trims?
The 2022 Mustang features five trim types: EcoBoost, Ecoboost Premium, GT, and Mach 1. The EcoBoost starts at $28,400, the EcoBoost Premium starts at $33,420, the GT starts at $38,470, the GT Premium starts at $42,470, and the Mach 1 starts at $55,195. The EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium add fuel efficiency to the lineup. The EcoBoost Premium boasts 19-inch wheels, clear taillight lenses, and black elements on the exterior and interior. Mach 1 is an amazing performance machine. It boasts a 470-horsepower V8 engine and is a true spiritual successor to the Bullitt model that Ford put out to pasture at the end of the 2010s.
Which one do we recommend?
The GT or Mach 1 both boast a 5.0-liter V8 and offer exceptional horsepower, forget the price tag. You get a Mustang to unleash your inner speed demon; why settle for a base trim. The GT Premium has some nice frills over the GT, but they are not special enough to get it over the GT. The Mach 1 is the best choice between the two; it is the premier powertrain and gives you all the thrills you expect from Ford's legendary pony.
What about its availability?
The Mach 1 has replaced the Bullitt, and it is part of the sixth generation of Mustangs introduced in 2015. All five trims are available now, and the EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium are newer versions introduced in the past few model years. Do not let their fuel efficiency and four-cylinder engines fool you. They can smoke older-generation Mustangs.
What about its performance and handling?
· The EcoBoost versions have four-cylinder engines but can dominate older V8 Mustangs and similar muscle cars
· The GT versions have 450-horsepower V8 engines. The Mach 1 boasts a 470-horsepower V8 engine
The 2022 Mustang lineup is compelling, and the performance and handling are impeccable. The optional V8 versions lose about ten horsepower and ten pound-feet of torque which is annoying. The Mach 1 can tramline over rough roads and can be tiring to straighten out overall though these vehicles handle and perform the way you expect from a Mustang. Ford is serious about its pony, and they came to compete and win in the American sports car class this model year.
How’s the interior?
Interior Details:
The interior of the 2022 Mustang is complicated. On the one hand, it has some excellent premium features like heated and cooled front seats, a vast center-console bin, impressive cargo space, and a pretty interior design. The Recaro seats are pretty uncomfortable; some of the plastic material that makes up much of the dashboard is chintzy. The interior leaves a lot to be desired and is the weakest part of the vehicle. The interior is not bad enough to take away from the overall experience.
Infotainment and connectivity synopsis:
Ford offers an optional Sync 3 infotainment system and comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The stereo system is fantastic, and you get an available Wi-Fi hotspot. The Ford Sync Connect allows users to monitor their vehicle via a smartphone app and comes standard. Given that you get a Mustang for the performance and driving ability, the amount of infotainment and connectivity options are very generous.
LIKES: The stereo system; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard; Wi-fi hotspot; Ford Sync Connect is awesome
DISLIKES: The level of options is not very robust
How about the technology and features?
The technology and features available in the 2022 Mustang Mach 1 are pretty paltry. The infotainment and connectivity options are good but not great. The powertrain features are awe-inspiring, which is where this vehicle separates itself from the competition.
LIKES: The powertrain options; Wi-Fi hotspot; Ford Sync Connect
DISLIKES: Infotainment and connectivity options leave a lot to be desired; the V8 packages lose 10 horsepower and 10 pound-feet of torque which is a bummer
Quick Quirks: The available V8 engine loses 10 horsepower and 10 pound-feet of torque regardless of the application. |
Some additional features:
· Revised chassis tuning
· Performance rear spoiler
· MagneRide damping system responds with a whopping 1,000 times per second for each damper
How’s the exterior?
Ford has delivered another good-looking lineup of Mustangs. The Mach 1 has a handling package that includes 19-inch wheels, adjustable strut top mounts, a performance rear spoiler, and a performance front aero splitter. Ford has delivered the goods with these ponies. They are beautiful and sleek and, true to their lineage, have exterior features that can help them cut through the air.
What warranty and safety does it offer?
Ford has included an available forward-collision warning system with automated emergency braking and an available lane-departure warning system with lane-keeping assist. The 2022 Mustang lineup also includes a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert. Mustangs have solid warranties but nothing that will blow you away. A limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles; a powertrain warranty covers five years or 36,000 miles. Ford does not offer complimentary scheduled maintenance.
Are there any incentives and rebates on the EV?
Federal and state governments provide incentives to promote EV purchases. It would be best to consider these incentives before finalizing the purchase of any EV, hybrid, or any other Alternatively Fueled Vehicle (AFV).
