What’s interesting about the Edge ST?

Some of the more interesting new features regarding the Edge, particularly the ST version, is that it boasts a 335-horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine, giving this vehicle a decisive edge over its competition. The infotainment system features a 12-inch touchscreen, which is one of many positives with the interior of this model. Overall, not too much has changed between the 2022 and 2021 models. The ST, in particular, is the high-end trim and offers the most bang for your buck.

How about the prices and trims?

Ford offers the Edge in five different trims. The SE, SEL, ST-Line, Titanium, and ST. The ST starts at $46,240 and is the most expensive trim; it also offers the V6 engine and all the other Edge elements. The SE is the lowest-priced trim starting at $37,440. The SEL starts at $39,740, the ST-Line starts at $43,540, and the Titanium trim starts at $43,540. Overall this is a reasonably-priced vehicle and competes nicely with its rivals.

Which one do we recommend?

With five different trims, there are a lot of options. We would recommend the SEL trim. It boasts a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a nine-speaker stereo system, heated front seats, LED fog lamps, and six-way power-adjustable passenger seats. The SEL offers more than the base SE trim, yet at almost $7,000 cheaper than top-line ST trim is more cost-effective. The ST offers the V6 engine, but not everyone is interested in that, and if you want a great mid-sized SUV with cool interior features for a great price, the SEL trim is the one for you.

What about its availability?

The 2022 Ford Edge and all its trims have been available since the end of 2021. All five trims are available for you at your local dealership.

What about its performance and handling?

The Ford Edge is impressive for a mid-sized SUV. The top-end ST trim boasts the 335-horsepower V6 engine and a seven-speed transmission. The SE, SEL, ST-Line, and Titanium all feature an eight-speed automatic all-wheel drive transmission with SelectShift capability. The Edge also has electric power-assisted steering, AdvanceTrac with roll stability control, independent front and rear suspension, and traction control, among other features. The Edge can handle its own on the road and has smooth handling and solid performance abilities. It has a bit of a rough ride compared to the competition, but it is a solid entry to the mid-sized SUV class.

Interior Specs:

Interior Details:

The interior is incredibly spacious for a mid-sized SUV. The panel and dashboard are crafted from high-end materials such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Ambient lighting, a lane-keeping system, and a blind-spot information system add a sophisticated technological aspect to the cabin. The interior seats five comfortably, and we found the cabin to be particularly striking.

Infotainment and connectivity synopsis:

The Edge and its trims come with a Sync 4A software interface featuring a 12-inch touchscreen display. AppleCarPlay and Android Auto are both standards, and the Edge also features a Wi-Fi hotspot standard. In-dash navigation is optional on base trims.

LIKES: Who does not like standard Apple Car Play or Android Auto? We do, and we think you will too.

DISLIKES: The fact that the in-dash navigation is optional is a bummer.

How about the technology and features?

The Edge boasts a Bang & Olufsen sound system that includes a subwoofer. The optional voice-activated touchscreen navigation system has pinch-to-zoom capability to drill down on a detailed version of your map. It includes a SiriusXM Traffic feature and the Travel Link feature, which lets you receive information such as parking, movie listings, fuel prices, electric vehicle charging stations, stocks, etc. The evasive steering option lets you avoid dangers through activated warning and automatic collision avoidance. The Edge also includes a lane-keeping system standard, cruise control, and an optional wireless charging pad. The Edge is replete with great technology and features that help it stand out among the competition.

LIKES: The Bang & Olufsen sound system and evasive steering option are incredibly cool features. The evasive steering feature is one of the more innovative safety features in any vehicle.

DISLIKES: The navigation system has some cool bells and whistles, but ultimately, if we have one complaint regarding this SUV's technological features, it is the navigation. It is optional, and its extra features like pinch-to-zoom or SiriusXM Travel Link help ensure that it adds extra cost to some of the higher-end trims, and ultimately in our view, it is not worth it.

Quick Quirks: The high-end ST seems to be completely different from its sister trims, which is usually the case with vehicles but specifically present with the Edge.

How’s the exterior?

The frame is pretty sleek, and this is one of the better-looking vehicles in its class. LED fog lamps, rear parking sensors, a rear spoiler, and intermittent speed-sensitive front windshield wipers are some of the highlights of the frame. We were pretty impressed by the overall design and exterior elements; however, unlike the interior features, the frame's features never wowed us the way the cabin did. Overall, we would say the frame is eye-catching with some cool features but is nothing that makes this vehicle stand out above the competition.

What warranty and safety features does it offer?

Regarding safety features, the Edge has side-impact airbags, a safety belt reminder, a driver's side knee airbag, a tire-pressure monitoring system, a rear-view camera, and rear door safety locks for children. Standard is a lane-departure warning system, lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking. The Edge has a limited warranty of three years or 36,000 miles or whichever comes first regarding warranty coverage. Ford also offers a powertrain warranty covering five years or 60,000 miles, and Ford offers no complimentary scheduled maintenance. So, the safety features are pretty standard with some excellent, unique features - unique to Ford more so than to the Edge - but Ford's warranty options are not great.

Are there any incentives and rebates?

As far as we know, there are no incentives or rebates with the Edge ST or other Edge trims.
