2022 Ford Super Duty Reviews and Insights

2022 Ford Super Duty: These are a fantastic lineup of trucks offering incredible capabilities and features with immense power.

PROS: The diesel engine has 1050 pound-feet of torque; the tech features are incredible; the crew cab's interior is exceptionally roomy; the payload and towing capacity are amazing

CONS: The driving feel can get wonky at highway speeds; Ram's cabin is nicer than the nicest cabin in the lineup; lifted models need a ladder to get in and out of; the stopping distance is like a train; the more added options, the pricier, and it gets pricey

VERDICT: The Super Duty lineup has a lot of impressive entries with excellent capabilities and features that make this family of trucks some of the best on the market.

Does it have any competitors or rivals?:

What’s interesting about the 2022 Super Duty?:

  • Newly available infotainment features

  • The Lariat Sport trim adds a color-matched grille, bumpers, and exterior mirrors, while also delivering a number of other exterior features

Ford delivers cool interior and exterior features for the Super Duty lineup while improving payload and towing capacity. This model year, the F-250 has four-wheel drive capability standard, helping make it even more valuable as a work truck. Ford has spent a lot of time tweaking and developing the lineup to ensure exceptional performance and continues the long tradition of Ford being synonymous with trucks that get the job done. The automaker has stuck chiefly to improving upon interior and exterior add-ons. The powertrain and performance abilities have only been slightly upgraded or remain the same.

How about the prices and trims?:

The Ford Super Duty has six trims that range from the high 30s to the high 80s in terms of price. The XL starts at $38,190, the XLT starts at $43,665, the Lariat starts at $51,325, the King Ranch starts at $66,290, the Platinum starts at $69,605, and the Limited starts at $88,3 models make up the lineup, for those who may not know.

Which one do we recommend?:

This coming summer, Ford will release the lineup, though it should not affect the prices mentioned above. Our recommendation would be to choose the F-250 crew cab Lariat version. It combines some beautiful amenities like leather-trimmed seats, dual-zone climate control, a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system with an optional Power Stroke diesel engine, or an optional 7.3-liter V8 (which we would personally recommend), and a 10-speed automatic transmission. The price range is suitable for a truck with all these additions, and the Lariat trim offers luxury without going as crazy as higher-priced trims. After all, you get a Super Duty for performance and the ability to help with work, so getting too pricey a trim just for added amenities defeats the purpose.

What about its availability?:

As we mentioned, the Super Duty lineup is not available until the summer of this year, meaning that you will not get to test-drive any until then. We have been able to review these trucks, and we do not imagine much will change between now and then. All trims and types (F-250, F-350, and F-450) will be ready by the summer. Come June; you can start heading to your local Ford dealer for one of these bad boys.

What about its performance and handling?:

  • Most Super Duty trucks have a 10-speed automatic transmission

  • Rear and four-wheel-drive versions are available

  • The heavy-duty version can tow up to 19 tons

The 2022 Super Duty lineup comes with either a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque or a 7.3-liter V8 engine with 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. A Power Stroke diesel engine boasts a 6.7-liter V8 engine with 475 horses and an astounding 1050 pound-feet of torque. The Super Duty has the Tremor off-road package that features a lift kit and gigantic tires. The heavy-duty versions can tow up to 19 tons helping these trucks deliver as off-road and working vehicles. Our biggest complaint is that the driving feel tends to be a bit wonky when you drive on the highway at high speeds.

How’s the interior?:

Interior Details:

The fashionability and functionality of the interior are something to behold. The most basic Super Duty interiors still have ergonomic seating and beautiful materials that make up the cabin. The Lariat trim has leather-trimmed upholstery, ambient lighting, heated and cooled front seats, and a wireless charger. The higher-end King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trims have even more premium features, such as massaging seats. The cabin is exceptionally roomy, surprisingly so for a truck. Our most significant sticking point with the Super Duty is that even the most premium versions of this lineup do not have as nice an interior as the Ram, which seems to be the class leader in interior class and functionality.

Infotainment and connectivity synopsis:

The base XL trim has a non-touch display for its infotainment system. The XLT has an eight-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay capability, Android Auto capability, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. For three months, you can upgrade to a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and complimentary SiriusXM satellite radio. Beyond the XL and XLT trims, other trims in the lineup feature a 12-inch touchscreen, Sync 4 software, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto capability. It is impressive to have this level of infotainment and connectivity for heavy-duty trucks like the kind you find in the 2022 Super Duty lineup.

LIKES: 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system; the Sync 4 software is really cool; standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability comes standard

DISLIKES: The XL and XLT models only come with an eight-inch touchscreen

  1. How about the technology and features?:

The powertrain and towing additions are simply incredible. You can customize the towing and performance capabilities to make your truck as robust as possible. The infotainment features are great, simple, and maybe not what you would have in a luxury vehicle, but pretty good for a heavy-duty truck. We were thoroughly impressed and believe that Ford has outdone itself this time and delivered one heck of a Super Duty lineup for the 2022 model year.

LIKES: The towing and performance capabilities and the ability to upgrade and customize them

DISLIKES: The infotainment aspects could be better; the lift kits make the cabin far too high off the ground

Quick Quirks: The drive feels a bit out of control when you are driving at highway speeds.

Some additional features:

  • The paint palette includes Atlas Blue as a choice

  • Additional interior colors for the Lariat trim includes the Baja, the Limited interior color choices are Navy Blue and Light Slate

  • A color-matched grille, bumpers, and chrome exhaust tips highlights the exterior customization choices

How’s the exterior?:

The Ford Super Duty has stand-out exterior features that deliver a sense of strength and style. Chrome exhaust tips, lift kits, and an off-road package. These vehicles come with a conventional trailer hitch that can allow you to pull up to 24,2000 pounds. Overall the frames of the Super Duty are pretty bold yet functional.

What warranty and safety does it offer?:

The available safety features that should be included once these vehicles are ready to be purchased are automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a blind-spot monitoring system. Ford will offer a limited warranty that covers three years or 36,000 miles. It offers a gas powertrain warranty covering five years or 60,000 miles and a diesel powertrain warranty covering five years or 100,000 miles. Ford does not offer complimentary scheduled maintenance.

Are there any incentives and rebates on the EV?: Federal and state governments provide incentives to promote EV purchases. It would be best to consider these incentives before finalizing the purchase of any EV, hybrid, or any other Alternatively Fueled Vehicle (AFV).
