2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E Reviews and Insights

Ford Mustang Mach-E: A Mustang that's a crossover electric SUV! Pretty cool and it has some great features to boot.

PROS: Athletic and sporty handling; impressive quickness; the larger battery pack has impressive range; great cargo space; accessible price; the cabin is luxurious

CONS: The real Mustang is more fun to drive; the ride quality is hot or miss; the Performance model is not worth the extra cost; front seat adjustments are limited

VERDICT: The 2022 Mustang Mach-E is an excellent concept; it is an electric-powered crossover SUV and a Mustang! Ford has innovated this lineup for the 2020s.

Does it have any competitors or rivals?:

Tesla Model Y, Chevrolet Bolt EUV, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Volkswagen ID.4, and Volvo XC40 Recharge

What’s interesting about the 2022 Mustang Mach-E?:

·    The second model year of the Mustang Mach-E might be better than the inaugural version in 2021 that was highly awarded.

·      The battery capacity is far better than the 2021 version, increasing its real-world range.

·      California Route 1 trim is available in all-wheel drive.

·      Ice White Package is available now

How about the prices and trims?:

The 2022 Mustang Mach-E comes with five trims. The Select is the base model and starts at $44,995, the Premium starts at $49,875, the California Route 1 starts at $53,550, GT starts at $63,095, and the GT Performance Edition is the top-end version and starts at $66,095.

Which one do we recommend?:

The Premium model is our top choice for the 2022 Mach-E trim. It has a driving range of 305 miles and a rear-wheel drive and an all-wheel-drive version, a faster-charging capability, 19-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a power liftgate, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system. You get all this for less than $50,000 MSRP. It is the clear winner in our view.

What about its availability?:

The 2022 Mustang Mach-E is the second iteration of the inaugural 2021 version that showcased Ford's innovative approach to this decade: introducing an electric-powered Mustang that is also a crossover SUV! All trims are available at your local dealer.

What about its performance and handling?:

·   The 2022 Mach-E has a 480-horsepower engine with 634 pound-feet of torque, and versions with 266 and 346 horsepower with 317 pound-feet of torque and 428 pound-feet of torque, respectively.

·      The Mach-E is a performance machine like its Mustang name would suggest.

The 2022 Mustang Mach-E features adaptive dampers and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive capabilities for a firm ride. The GT Performance model can go 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. That being said, the 2022 Mustang Mach-E is not as engaging or smooth as the traditional Mustang. The operation is quiet, and the ride is smooth, but you will not be as engaged as you will be with the traditional Mustang.

How’s the interior?

Interior Details:

The cargo space inside this vehicle is quite impressive, with an impressive amount of passenger space. The dashboard has a cool-looking digital gauge cluster and a vertically mounted touchscreen. The cabin also features ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, etc. The cabin is quite impressive and definitely on a higher level than traditional Mustang vehicles. We were thoroughly impressed by the cabin.

Infotainment and connectivity synopsis:

This vehicle features a SYNC infotainment system, Ford's next-generation infotainment system. This system allows three driver profiles and one guest profile for a customized infotainment experience. This software runs on a 15.5-inch touchscreen which gives you a large screen to access the system and its features. There is also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard. The interior has a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot and a Bang & Olufsen audio system.

LIKES: The SYNC infotainment system is really cool and innovative; a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot

DISLIKES:  There is nothing we really dislike

How about the technology and features?:

The aforementioned interior features are superb. The powertrain has some cool features like accelerating 0-60 in less than four seconds and with a top-line horsepower output of 480. The battery technology is awe-inspiring as it is compact, allowing for maximum interior space while also having maximum power and charging ability. We believe that how this vehicle is powered is probably its best technological asset, if nothing else.

LIKES: The battery technology; the infotainment technology

DISLIKES: Nothing really, however some of the decline of the horsepower performance based on all-wheel-drive versus rear-wheel drive is disappointing

Quick Quirks:  The all-wheel-drive downgrades your miles per charge, making some sense but is a bit quirky and a bummer.

Some additional features:

·      Modest models have great range

·      Two direct-drive transmissions

How’s the exterior?:

The exterior of the Mach-E is nice. It will not blow you away with its looks, but it is sleek enough. What it lacks with its beauty, it makes up for in features like available 19-inch wheels, a lip spoiler, a rear cargo liftgate, and speed-sensitive rain detecting windshield wipers. LED brake lights, automatic high beams, and perimeter approach lights round out the exterior highlights. Overall we would say that the frame is nice but not the strength of this vehicle.

What warranty and safety does it offer?:

Ford does not offer much of a warranty for the Mach-E. It has a limited warranty covering three years or 36,000 miles, a powertrain warranty covering five years or 60,000 miles, or a warranty for electrical components covering eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Ford has no complimentary scheduled maintenance, which is unfortunate. You get an available forward-collision warning system with automated emergency braking as far as safety features go. You get an available blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert and a lane-departure warning system with lane-keeping assist.

Are there any incentives and rebates on the EV?:

Federal and state governments provide incentives to promote EV purchases. It would be best to consider these incentives before finalizing the purchase of any EV, hybrid, or any other Alternatively Fueled Vehicle (AFV).
